Lobster Pot set sights on title after PHC win
Commercial Cup holders Lobster Pot now have their sights on league glory as they remain top of the Commercial League after beating PHC 2-0 at the weekend.
Kevin Ronaldson found the net from six yards out with a tremendous headed goal from a Akeem May corner five minutes after the break while skipper Tom Cusack fired home from long range after good build-up play from Ronaldson to seal the win in the dying minutes.
Robin Hood are second on goal difference, ahead of Dandy Town Roots who beat them 4-2 on Saturday.
Hood started out the better side and took the lead through Steven Simons but Roots soon began to gain momentum and were on level terms when Darron Simons rifled home.
Shortly after the restart, Mark Trott put the Roots ahead when he smashed home a cross from Paul Cann.
Hood equalised within a minute when Simons grabbed his second. However, Roots regained the lead with a powerful Maurice Lowe header from a Cann corner.
Hood pushed hard for the equaliser but Shennon Gilbert wrapped it up with a close-range finish in stoppage time.
BAA Wanderers, who crushed Prospect/Fire 5-1, are also on six points. Wanderers started brightly when Martin Jones opened the scoring after ten minutes after being put through by veteran Jim Campbell.
BAA got number two shortly after when skipper Chris Worsick chipped the Prospect keeper from 20 yards. BAA were now in complete control and Jones added a third after good work from Paul Colvin shortly before half-time.
The game continued along similar lines when early in the second half Noel McGrath made up for his first-half penalty miss with a 30-yard volley into the top corner.
Eddie Valentine completed the scoring for BAA with a nice right foot volley at the back post after great work from Jones down the wing.
Prospect battled gamely and got their just rewards with a consolation goal from Robert Williams who beat two defenders and lashed home from 20 yards.
Reigning champions MR Onions are still struggling to hit top form as they blew a two-goal lead against Key West Rangers and eventually grabbed a point in a 3-3 draw.
Simon Gregory and Nigel Forrester scored either side of the break but a Sergio Griffin effort followed by a Steve Woodward own goal put Rangers on even terms.
Paul Towlson scored 20 minutes from the end and looked to have handed Rangers all three points, before a last minute Eoghan O'Dwyer effort spared Onions blushes.
Meanwhile North Village Rams and Tuff Dogs drew 0-0.
In the B Division, Group One East End derby St. George's All-Stars overcame St. David's Warriors 3-1. Brent Minors scored first for All-Stars and Justin Pitcher tied it up after the break.
All-Stars sub Stevie Dickinson put his team in front while his team-mate goalkeeper Maxwell Burgess became the instant hero by saving a St. David's penalty after a contested handball. Substitute William 'Apples' Richardson ensured an All-Stars win with an injury time finish.
Vasco hammered Hamilton Parish 4-2. Ross Nottingham smashed home on his debut, and Randy Simons grabbed two.
Two goals apiece from Boulevard's Cleve Rodgers and Michael Pond as well as a single from Mark Ward helped demolish Somerset Bridge 5-1.
