McCann bidding for two in a row at Belmont

Newly-crowned Bermuda Open champion, Brian McCann, will be among the top contenders at the $50,000 Gosling's Invitational that tees off on Monday at Belmont Hills.

Last year the Canadian squandered a four-shot lead in the final round to enable American Tim Conley to come from behind and clinch a fifth Invitational crown. However, those demons were finally exorcised at Tucker's Point last week as McCann prevailed by four shots over Swede Henrik Engdahl in the Open.

Fresh off his most recent success, 2001 Azores Open winner McCann has now set his sights on next week's Gosling's title but is certain to find his work cut out for him as former US PGA player Mike Donald, among other US pros, is among the 95-strong field that will bid for the $9,000 winner's purse.

Defending champion Conley is also slated to play but whether or not he takes his place in the Belmont field hinges largely on his performance at a Senior Tour qualifying event this week.

Last year's low amateur, Daniel Augustus, is back to defend his title. He captured the amateur crown by a comfortable 14-shot margin.

The event officially begins on Sunday with the Commonwealth versus USA four-ball matchplay event with a trophy up for grabs.

This year's play will also see Ace Group of Companies sponsor the Jet Blue Challenge in which competitors will have the opportunity to pick up $50,000 with a hole-in—one on the final day. Cycle Care have also donated a Sym brand cycle for anyone that records a hole-in-one on the 17th hole during any of the four days of the tournament.

Peugeot, TBI and Bermuda Department of Tourism are also among the sponsors of this year's Invitational.
