Negotiating the rocky road to success . . .
I want to congratulate all the players who got drafted for the Island Soccer League last week, also I would like to commend the staff for putting on another successful draft.
As we look to move forward toward another successful ISL season, I want to let the players know that this year we will be focusing on creating more awareness in the community, which means players will be ask to commit themselves more for appearances with our young people.
Our topic this week is about the word "success". This word has followed many of you around, it is one that also could create great fear. Sometimes you scream its name, you study it and for some you take great pride in it , you love when it comes around and it rewards you greatly when spending time with it.
It has become the pillow for hard work , some people get lost in it, but many have met it. It is a demanding word and could cause great stress at times. It has a way of making you feel good after all the struggles you have put through for it. Success has a price and if you are willing to pay it then you would benefit tremendously.
As I sit here on my flight flying back to Baltimore from Florida I'm thinking of the successful people I have met along my journey, not just people who have become financially successful but ones who have completed a task and achieved great accomplishments.
From great tennis players, NFL players, baseball players and soccer players, they all relate their success to hard work and believing in who they are and having very little fear in their journeys when achieving it.
Success comes from hard work and dedication. To be successful at something, you have to dedicate your mind and realise that sacrifices are needed. You must have the will to want to develop along the journey in front of you, be willing and patient with getting to the end. You have to keep focused on your prize.
Keeping your mind open to change is also an important factor because success calls for being prepared for the unexpected. Your support system has to be stable and strong, you must realise that successful people do not accomplish tasks alone, they always have someone helping them through those rough times or someone who is there to enjoy those great moments.
Successful people succeed through the strength of their circle, being around positive and driven people helps plenty.
We all have experienced success in one way or another. Succeeding in something does not always have to be something big, it could range from getting a promotion to finding a short cut home. Sometimes we tend to disregard the little successes we have in life. We overlook small accomplishments because they are not the breathtaking news that many of us tend to look for.
If we continue to follow this trend it will filter down to our young people and they will feel the need to only challenge themselves to complete the biggest task, instead of the little ones first which will help them move forward for the greater ones at the end.
I ask you to enjoy every milestone big or small and encourage and praise others as well, make them feel that it was a great accomplishment so they could continue to strive forward.
This thought process will help people with setting realistic goals from the start and will help them gain confidence to continue on to greatness.
Remember it is not just the completed task that we must celebrate but the journey it takes in doing so.
Until next time!
