Orioles slumped to their first defeat of the season allowing Canaries to take over top spot in the A Division of the Bermuda Ladies Hockey Association.

Cardinals inflicted the former leaders' first loss, winning 2-0 with both goals coming from Maria Pitchery. Pitchery struck early in the first half from a short corner and then sealed the victory from a free hit after the break.

Canaries took advantage of the loss by edging Bluebirds 2-1. After a scoreless first half, Canaries stepped up the pace and forced a number of short corners, one of from which Emma Garon netted the opening goal. Blues quickly equalised but a late penalty flick allowed Rhonda Rawlings to give Canaries maximum points.

In the B Division, leaders Swallows continued their unbeaten streak with a 3-0 demolition of Cardinals thanks to a hat-trick from Jenny Burrell. A decision to move Burrell into the left forward position quickly paid dividends as she opened the scoring in the first half. Some fine work from Liz Osborne allowed Burrell to net her second goal after a solo run and she then completed her hat-trick, capitalising on a goalmouth scramble.

The weekend's other match saw Canaries and Bluebirds B teams play to a goalless draw.
