Rampant Onions crush Prospect in 11-goal rout
Commercial League champions MR Onions hammered Prospect/Fire 11-0 as rivals Robin Hood and BAA both lost at the weekend.
Onions beat an under-strength Prospect/Fire team who started with 10 men and only made it up to eleven late in the second half.
Prospect defended resolutely but succumbed to a 20th-minute Simon Gregory header which opened the floodgates. A Darragh O'Donoghue hat-trick, braces from Gary Garnett and Eoghan O'Dwyer and individual strikes from substitutes Ben Readdy, Leo Lucisano and Mark Dunlop completed the scoring as Onions romped into a 6-0 half-time lead and put away another five after the break, although some terrible Onions finishing saved Prospect further embarrassment.
An under-strength Lobster Pot side returned to winning ways with a fully deserved win over BAA. The Greens started with the majority of possession but created nothing while Pot looked dangerous on the break. Only several good saves from BAA 'keeper Tony Ward and poor finishing from Pot kept the teams level at half-time.
The second half started in the same vein with BAA controlling possession but Pot's rearguard dealing comfortably with everything thrown at them. And it was Pot who took the lead when veteran manager Troy Berkeley nodded home from a Kevin Ronaldson flick-on. BAA threw caution to the wind in search of an equaliser and with 20 minutes to go were rewarded when Martin Jones fired home to make the score 1-1.
However, with BAA pushing for a winner, Kevin Ronaldson scored a superb individual goal with 10 minutes remaining to give Pot all three points.
Robin Hood lie third after losing 2-1 to improving Tuff Dogs. Kenny Dill put Hood into the lead before the break but late goals from Jamel Lovell and Robbie Almeida gave Dogs the win.
Key West beat Dandy Town 6-1 and PHC Raiders also continued to improve as striker Quincy Hunt helped them to a 3-1 win over North Village Rams. Former pro Kyle Lightbourne came close early on as his left-footed free kick curled inches wide from some 25 yards out.
Hunt got onto the scoresheet after 16 minutes as he lobbed onrushing keeper Ricky Hill to make it 1-0. Minutes later Hunt increased the lead to 2-0 as he struck a beauty from 20 yards out. Craig Crichlow then made it 3-0 before the break as he robbed Hill and slotted home.
After the restart Rams looked more lively and it paid off as Tillman Darrell netted to reduce the arrears. Lightbourne should have added his name to the scoresheet but his free header left him holding his head as he put his effort over the bar.
In the B Division Group One, St. George's All-Stars finally got back to winning ways after two consecutive draws with a deserved 4-2 victory over Valley.
All-Stars scored first when Eugene Crockwell converted easily from close range after being set up by Stevie Dickinson. Valley equalised soon after but found themselves behind once again when All-Stars' midfielder Steven Denbrook scored a spectacular long range effort which completed the first-half scoring.
Valley got off to the second half in good style with another equaliser setting up a grand finale. All-Stars answered the call emphatically when Maxwell Burgess met another precise cross from Dickinson and duly planted home the third and winning goal. The victory was ensured when William (Apples) Richardson scored a fourth goal, capping a great day for the stalwarts from the East.
Hamilton Parish beat Boulevard 8-4 courtesy of a Corey Hill hat-trick, braces from Irving Burgess and Sean Dill and one from Devray Hollis. Jamiko Wilson and Warren Iris were among the Boulevard scorers. Vasco picked up the points the easy way with St. David's failing to muster a side.
And those mourning the imminent death of the Commercial League would have been embarrassed by the lack of action in the Commercial B Group Two. Wolves could only gather three players against champions Somerset Extros while Dockyard Falcons raised a similar paltry number for their tie against Pest Control.
The only game to go ahead was Devonshire Lions' 3-2 defeat of MR Onions Real Men. Worrell Bean fired home from a tight angle to give Lions the half-time lead and he doubled his tally in the second half but missed a penalty for his hat-trick. A Shawn Showers strike clinched the win for Lions with Phil Heaney and Steve Nowell on target for Onions.
