Robinson backs Somerset to bounce back
Somerset skipper Jacobi Robinson has downplayed his team's home loss to Cleveland County last weekend and is confident the West Enders can bounce back by winning the inaugural Twenty20 title at the National Sports Centre (NSC).
Somerset came crashing to earth when they lost by six wickets at Somerset Cricket Club.
However, Robinson (pictured) believes his team-mates have what it takes to put that disappointing result behind them and redeem themselves with victory over St. David's in the tonight's final.
"It is important for us to get ourselves up off the ground, look at what we did wrong and go back to the drawing board.
"We have a big game tonight against St. David's and hopefully this will kick start our season.
"Our club demands results and trophies, so we will see if we can continue this mentality tonight."
Somerset will also be looking for a pick me up from the opening game of the 50- over campaign when they play Devonshire Rec. at home tomorrow.
"After our loss last weekend, we will be looking to notch our first win of the season in the 50 over league and move forward," said Robinson.
"Talking with the players, it seemed as if we had a lot of mental lapses and didn't take the game as serious as you should do every week.
"We didn't have a full bowling and batting attack that we would normally have, but we must come together and realise what we have to do.
"It is early, but if some guys want to come out just to get a knock and have fun then by all means enjoy it.
"But if we want to be serious contenders for honours this year then we must get serious, and be serious at all times."
Robinson is all too aware that this weekend could have an adverse effect on his side for the rest of the season.
"Every game is a must win as I think the league will be tight, and you have to do what you can for yourselves, and not leave it in the hands of other teams."
Elsewhere, defending champions Young Men's Social Club clash St. George's at the Devonshire Rec.
The other match of the weekend sees St. David's hosting Cleveland.
In the First Division Leg Trappers play Warwick at Police Field, PHC host Flatts and the Under 18's play Willow Cuts at the National Sports Centre.
