Rooney should learn from Beckham's United exit

Wayne Rooney needs to be careful or he could end up going the same way as David Beckham, out the door.

He maybe one of the best players of his generation, but no players is bigger than a club, especially a club like Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson has shown that before, and I doubt he'd be afraid to do so again.

I think if Rooney had decided to leave Manchester United it would have been the biggest mistake of his career, clearly Sir Alex Ferguson runs the place and he has to understand that many players that didn't fall into line have been let go.

Obviously he has had second thoughts about the whole thing and signed a new deal with the club, but he still needs to realise that there is a way of doing things. You can't go and start screaming because things aren't going the way you wanted, you have to look at the club as a whole and know what is important for the club.

Still United will be happy to have kept him, he is a very important part of their team now, and in the future. It is the best move for the player as well, if he had left under this sort of cloud, given the way he has behaved in the past, it would have been a hell of a ride for him at his next club.

Turning to the Champions League, what a match between Tottenham and Inter Milan and a fantastic result for Spurs. To be down a man and come back was truly remarkable, even if Inter did take their foot off the pedal.

The rest of the results were pretty much as expected, but this could actually be seen as a good thing. It means that the smaller teams aren't being taken for granted any longer.

And you have to remember that the competition is the second biggest after the World Cup, and bigger for the clubs in terms of the money it generates. The longer you spend in the competition, the more money you make, and so no-one wants to lose by underestimating the opposition.

Looking to the weekend, my beloved West Ham take on Newcastle and are finally finding some sort of form.

We are doing well at the moment, and Avram Grant has a proven track record, he just needed some time to get things in order. How he is assembling the side at the moment is great, we went to Wolves and got a result and could have gotten three points at the very end.

We are happy as fans and this week if we can get three points it will put us up a bit further away from danger, because when you look at the table, the points gap is tight and two wins on the trot can get you as high as sixth or seventh. It will be vital for us to continue how we are going.

The match between Arsenal and Manchester City will go a long way to defining the title ambitions of both clubs.

City have players that are paid a lot of money, and some of them are over-priced but who am I to say anything about that. When they put their heads down and get on with what lies ahead they are a hard team to beat, so it will be very interesting to see how it pans out.
