Roy claims PGA match play title

Scott Roy celebrated his birthday in style with a one-up victory over Dwayne Pearman in the final of the PGA of Bermuda's Fritz Reiter Match Play Championships at Belmont Hills yesterday.

Roy, brother of last year's champion Steven, was two down after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole final but managed to pull level by the 23rd hole.

The pair halved holes 24 and 25 before Roy grabbed the lead on the 26th with a birdie and went two up with five holes to play.

Pearman continued to battle and got within one hole on the 34th and both missed birdie putts at the 35th to set up a dramatic finish.

The final hole was halved as Roy sunk a 10 footer to claim the win.

"This was tough, Dwayne made me fight for this, he had chances to blow me away but he didn't capitalise, leaving me with the opportunity to get back into the match," said Roy.

"It's my birthday tomorrow, my anniversary and my wife's birthday all in the next few days so I think I am going to enjoy this win even more."
