Hockey Association Bacardi seven-a-side tournament on Sunday at National Stadium.

Playing against teams composed largely of older women, the Saltus girls won all four of their matches, delighting their coach, Saltus business teacher Dafydd Hermann-Smith.

The Saltus first team played three other sides as well as the school's own second squad, Swifts, and beat them all.

In the match against Cardinals, a goal by Emily Black provided Saltus with a 1-0 victory. Their second game against league champions and last year's tournament winners, Canaries, saw the school win again by a 1-0 margin, thanks to a goal from captain Samantha Adams and an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Amie Dawson.

They went on to defeat Swifts 3-0 on goals by Adams, Megan Spurling and Ana Anton.

That victory put Saltus into the final against Orioles, and again they emerged 1-0 winners with Anton scoring the decisive goal.

Other members of the champion team were Caroline Black, Tiffany Sousa, Danielle Skinner, Leigh-Ann Shaw and Suella Matthews.

Said coach Hermann-Smith: "The Association are celebrating their 25th anniversary and, for the first time in many years, invited schools to participate. I don't think they expected us to take the trophy, but we did and I am extremely proud of the Saltus girls.''
