Sims left to ponder what could have been

Michael Sims finished the Melwood Prince's County Open in much the same manner that he started it.

The Bermudian finished at four-under in a tie for 36th place after an inconsistent final round 72 that included four birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey.

In the end he was well behind eventual winner Mathias Gronberg, who hit a final round 65 to finish on 19-under par.

All in all it was an up and down event for Sims, who failed to break 70 in any of his four rounds on The Country Club at Woodmore course.

Over the four days of the Nationwide Tour event, Sims hit one double-bogey, 12 bogeys, and 18 birdies. It was still his best showing for several weeks however, having failed to make the cut at the previous two tournaments.

Premier Dr. Ewart Brown will host the management and staff of the Port Royal Golf Course at Camden today to congratulate them on a job well done as the course's multi-million dollar renovation project nears completion.

Leaders of the Bermuda Department of Tourism and the Board of Trustees for public golf courses will also participate in the event.

"The men and women of Port Royal deserve our gratitude and this Camden reception is one way to show it," said Premier Brown.

"The size and scope of the Port Royal renovation project is like nothing we've attempted before and the staff grabbed the challenge with both hands.

"The end result is, without a doubt, one of the world's finest public courses. The new Port Royal will be a strong component of Bermuda's tourism future and these employees had a lot to do with that.

"Of course the work is not completely done yet so I will encourage the staff to keep up the good work and run through the finish line tape."

The remake of Port Royal included lengthening the course 281 yards, adding Tif Eagle greens, repaving cart paths, installation of a new reverse osmosis plant and a host of other improvements.

Renovations to the clubhouse are now underway.

"I am very proud of each member of the team and as a collective group they can all be very proud of what has been achieved," said Zane DeSilva who is Chairman of the House and Links Committee for the Board of Trustees.
