Six Bermudians in Canadian university team
Talented trio Ian Coke, Shane Hollis and Bermuda international Seion Darrell will be looking to make an impact after joining defending Atlantic University Sport (AUS) champions Cape Breton University.
The promising youngsters have joined fellow sons of the soil Antonio Lowe and Jason Davis, both internationals, and Jacqui Simons who all tasted success last term en route to a league and Cup double last season and give the Canadian university a real Island blend.
"All of the Bermudans are part of their national programme," said Capers coach Robbie Chiasson, who is in his sixth year at the helm. "It's a nice network we've established with them, too. We're pretty happy to work with their national programme."
"I like the way the team is coming together right now. It's a very new team. We only have five or six players returning from last year, so you look at the big turnaround, a lot of people might think it's a rebuilding year.
"But I'm pretty happy with the recruits coming in and I think we're going to put another solid team on the field."
Returning to the squad are Evan MacEachern in goal and Bermudian defenders Simons and Lowe. In midfield, Davis, Murat Sukru will be back and up front, Kyle MacIsaac is the only returnee.
The team lost key figures in top scorer Kwame Osei and keeper Omar Gallo-Penich to graduation and Canadian Interuniversity Sport all-star Ricardo Marquez and midfielder Matthew O'Connor to pro contracts in Europe.
Chiasson describes Hollis, who has trained in Brazil for the last couple of years, as an exciting and skillful player with quick feet. Darrell will offer plenty of attacking and defensive options, while Coke is another player with blistering speed.
