Smith makes Revs sub appearance

Khano Smith made his first appearance for New England Revolution since rejoining his former team last week.

Smith came on as a substitute in the 90th minute in Revs Major League Soccer (MLS) season opener at LA Galaxy, who won 1-0.

The Bermuda international, who played for the Revs from 2005 to 2008, had been on trial at the Eastern Conference outfit as a non-roster player during pre-season following his brief stint at English League Two side, Linclon City.

The Revs signed Serbian midfielder Marko Perovic and Smith last Friday.

"We're pleased to bring in Marko and Khano," Revolution vice-president of player personnel Michael Burns said: "Marko has a tremendous amount of experience in the top levels of European soccer and will give our attack an added dimension. Khano's re-signing allows us added flexibility and depth in several positions."

Perovic will occupy one of the team's eight international roster spots and will join the team pending receipt of his US P-1 Visa. Smith, who is a US permanent resident, will count as a domestic player in his second stint with the team.

An early lapse on a defensive set piece cost the Revs dearly on Saturday night at The Home Depot Centre, as Edson Buddle's header from Landon Donovan's sixth-minute free kick gave Galaxy victory.
