Star overseas riders race in season finale
International riders will take to the track tomorrow to race against Bermuda's best at the Motorsports Park at Southside as the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club (BMRC) host their final event of the National Championship Series.
Emerson Conner, Justin Maley and Tim Marks will be the three overseas riders to test their skills in their respective classes as the season reaches its climax.
Conner, 15, will be competing in the GP125 class against the Island's top young riders, Bruce Degrilla jr. and Keanu Wilson.
Last year, the youngster took part in the USA Red Bull Rookies Cup in his first year of GP125, riding alongside the late Toriano Wilson.
So far this year he has accumulated numerous regional and national titles in three disciplines across both Canada and the United States.
Maley, 36, will be competing in the Formula Class against the Island's number one rider in 2009, Ed Cook.
Originally from Australia, Maley won several championships Down Under before he moved to California a few years' ago.
Marks, at 48, is the oldest rider competing but has travelled to Bermuda several times during his career.
Riding his 500cc two-stroke Kawasaki, Marks expects to take his bike up to speeds in access of 100mph on the front straight.
He has won numerous titles in different motor sports over the years.
In collaboration with motocross and go-karts, the BMRC will end their season with the three heats in each class.
Paul DeCouto of the BMRC said he was excited about tomorrow's racing and was looking to have an even better season next year.
"We expect a great turn-out for our season finale, we have several guest riders flying in from overseas to compete, including a 14 year-old 125cc champion," he said.
"This season we did have more than our fair share of trials and tribulations but as a club we stand firm.
"We have bright future ahead of us and are looking forward to a fun and exciting season next year.
"A very important part of this weekend's event is the collaboration with Youth Net to promote their school-based mentor programme.
"Youth Net will participate in the final event of the National Championship Series with a stall set up in the spectator area and a half-time presentation.
"We are also very excited to have both the motocross and go-kart members participating in the season finale with giveaways scheduled to be presented to members of the crowd during the half-time intermission."
Gates open at 12 p.m. with racing beginning at 1 p.m.
