Tucker relishing classic comeback
Recalled Somerset Cup Match batsman Kwame Tucker insists his appetite for the annual classic is a strong as ever.
The former Bermuda international highlighted his 'big game' credentials with a sparkling century in the Somerset's final trial match at the weekend.
With opening batsman Dion Stovell ruling himself out of contention, Tucker returns to the Island's biggest cricketing stage and brings with him a wealth of classic experience having been part of the Somerset set up for the best part of a decade.
The Southampton Rangers veteran said Somerset skipper Jacobi Robinson had convinced him to make his Cup Match comeback as the challengers look to dethrone St.George's.
"It feels good to get back into Cup Match, I've always wanted to get back in and it was just a matter of letting my game do the talking," said Tucker.
"I really wasn't serious about the game for a little period but now I have the appetite back, it feels good to be in the team and I look to win the cup back for Somerset.
"By talking to the captain and seeing his vision of how this can work out I wanted to be apart of it and have since been rewarded with the recall."
The seasoned campaigner has had more then his fair share of ups and downs in the annual spectacle over the years.
In 2000 he was a vital member of the triumphant Somerset team that retained the trophy on home turf. That side demolished St. George's by six wickets and boasted the likes of Albert Steede, Dwayne Leverock, cousin Janeiro Tucker and Corey Hill.
Five years later Tucker was part of the team that relinquished the title in St. George's – a trophy they have retained ever since.
Tucker now wants to exorcise the demons of 2005 and feels Somerset have a side capable of beating St. George's.
"The teams we have had before were good teams but at certain stages in the games we needed a little bit of guidance," he said. "Jacobi, as a young captain, needs a few wiser players around him to show him different things as the game goes back and forth.
"This year he has the tools required to get the job done and on Friday I personally will be looking forward to lifting the cup and keeping it in Somerset.
"We have to go at them and look to attack them, any weaknesses they show we need to exploit and if we can do these things then we will be okay."
