Tuff Dogs take over top spot
Tuff Dogs went top of the Corona League for the first time over the weekend with a win over Robin Hood while BAA stayed in contention with victory over Prison Officers.
Second-placed Vasco had a bye.
Tuff Dogs 2 Robin Hood 1
Tuff Dogs needed to tough it out for their 2-1 win over Robin Hood on Friday night.
With leaders Vasco idle and having played two more games than their rivals, it was an opportunity seized by Dogs as they went top via goal difference.
Goals from John Payne and Lamaul Crofton put Dogs up 2-0 before Nick Boorman pulled a goal back for Hood to make it interesting late into the game.
Although suffering a numerical disadvantage after Joe Corolla was sent off for a second bookable offence, Dogs held their nerve.
BAA 3 Prison Officers 1
The late Friday night fixture saw a Prison Officers team, led by Keith Jennings, take on a Wanderers team who were looking to bounce back from the heavy loss they suffered a week before to Tuff Dogs.
And it was BAA who came out of the blocks quickest and took the game to Officers with excellent wing play from Martin Jones and Paul Colvin causing their defence all kinds of problems.
It was surprising that it took a full 20 minutes for the first goal to arrive but when it did it was a cracker with livewire midfielder and subsequent man-of-the-match Ollie Labett playing a clever one-two with Colvin to outwit the Officers defence, run 40 yards, draw the keeper and slot the ball into the net.
A second goal followed two minutes later when more BAA pressure led to Jones finding himself free in the box to turn and slam the ball home.
After 36 minutes substitute Des Johnson, on for the injured Neal Churchill, chased a long through ball, rounded the keeper and hit BAA's third, effectively putting the game beyond Officers' reach.
Officers rallied in the second half and pulled a goal back back on 47 minutes when a long range effort deceived Chris Hirst in the Wanderers goal to make it 3-1.
All efforts at a comeback were finally extinguished when, on 76 minutes, Jennings was shown a straight red for a kick at a grounded Wanderers player.
West End United 4 MR Onions 0
West End United got goals from four separate players as they sunk Onions with minimal fuss.
Paul Maybury, Duncan Barclay, Francis DeSilva all got on the scoresheet for United, while debutant Davide Almeida added the other.
Goalkeeper Christopher Bromby made some fine saves to deny Onions a consolation goal and earn his side their first clean sheet of the year.
Lobster Pot 4 Prospect Fire 2
A brace from Jamie Matthews was enough to see Lobster Pot to all three points as they overcame Prospect to jump out of the bottom three.
Matthews was helped in the scoring department by Chuckwoma Woods and Johnson Mugulus.
Fire got goals from Justin Robinson and Alvin Baker who both scored screamers.
With the loss, Fire missed out on an opportunity to leapfrog Pot and still sit at the foot fo the table.
St. David's 3 Valley FC 2
St. David's distanced themselves from the chasing pack with this hard fought win over Valley.
Goals from Lauren Marshall, Justin Pitcher and Allan Douglas guided the side to victory but Valley made it close with two goals of their own.
The East Enders are now just one point behind Valley and can move above them if results go their way this weekend.
