Walker to lead Select XI

Lindo's Twenty20 champions St. David's kick off their title defence against Young Men's Social Club at home tomorrow.

With 16 teams playing in two divisions, double headers will be held at each venue with both Premier and First Division sides mixed together with a BCB U-19 side and a Commercial XI in the competition for the first time in the competition.

Along with St. David's and Social Club in one group are Western Stars, BCB U-19, Willow Cuts, Warwick, Bailey's Bay and the Commercial XI, while Somerset, St. George's, Flatts, Cleveland, PHC, Leg Trappers, Somerset Bridge, Devonshire Rec. make up the second group of teams.

It is the first time that the Commercial League will take part in a BCB competition, and it is a challenge the league is relishing. North Village skipper Allen Walker will lead the Commercial League XI in their inaugural BCB match.

Walker has drawn on players from only three of the league's five teams including his own, Jamaican Association and BC Allrounders as the other two, newly-crowned league champions Spring Garden Cavaliers and Forties, are meeting in the Commercial League's season-ending Knockout Cup final at Shelly Bay.

The most prolific batsman in Walker's team is BC Allrounders' wicketkeeper Dano Outerbridge, who has already struck two league centuries this season.

Elsewhere Warwick and Willow Cuts will do battle at Somerset Cricket Club followed by Somerset and Somerset Bridge at the same venue, while the Commercial XI will play Western Stars in their opener before St. David's and Social Club square off, with both games at Lords.

Cleveland's first match will be against Devonshire Rec in the first game of a double header at Sea Breeze Oval, with Bailey's Bay and BCB U-19 slated to play the second match.

The remaining games, Leg Trappers against PHC and St. George's clash with Flatts will be played at Wellington Oval.
