We never stopped believing
PHC skipper Kyle Lightbourne praised his side's never-say-die attitude after their stunning Belco Cup win.
The victory over defending champions Southampton Rangers was the first major piece of silverware for the club, something Lightbourne attributed to a pre-season of hard work.
"That was nice, we worked hard pre-season, and I'm happy for the boys," said Lightbourne. "We looked like we were dead and buried after the first 20 overs, they were going along very well, but we said 'let's just stick to it, keep going, and if we get a wicket that could change it all'.
"And that's exactly what happened. It was a team effort, we stuck together, we just kept believing, and evey time we got a wicket we just said 'keep going, keep going' and in the end it paid off.
"We have shown that we are growing as a unit, as a cricket club. We put in a lot of hard work, and we got rewarded for it. We made over 200 runs both days, we got seven St David's wickets, we bowled Rangers out, that was good.
Lightbourne is no stranger to success, but it is normally in football where he picks up his trophies, and he said this triumph ranked highly alongside any of those victories.
"This is high, this is high, because this is the first major trophy PHC's won as a cricket team. It's our first time being in the competition, and we win it."
