What the umpire reported . . .

The report by umpire Kent Gibbons on the match between St. George's and St. David's at Wellington Oval on August 24 has been obtained by The Royal Gazette.

Regarding the incident involving Bascome, he wrote: "Herbie Bascome played the ball onto his wicket, he then turned around and hit the stumps with his bat.

"He then fixed the stumps back up and put the bails on the stumps and left the playing field."

A St. David's official who attended the match, speaking under condition of anonymity, told The Gazette: "It was intentional and when he realised what he had done, he fixed them (stumps) back up.

"The wicket was shattered by the ball and he then turned around and knocked them out of the ground.

"The ball struck him on his hip and then he hit the wicket and he just turned in the same swing and knocked the wicket over. When he realised what he had done he quickly fixed the stumps because he realised he had made a mistake."
