Sunday saw round three of Bermuda Bicycle Association's road racing point series at Clearwater with a large field turning out again.

The men's A group was contested over 49 miles – 15 laps – with a fast pace set from the start, and although a few riders tried hard to break away from the field it was Scott Williams from Team Madison who eventually crossed the line first.

On lap five Arthur Pitcher and Mark Hatherley created a 30-second gap on the field which they held for some 10 miles. But as they tired, they were reeled in just after the half-way point. Again riders tried hard to break away but on uphill finish Darren Glassford was overtaken by 2009 national champion Williams

Seventeen-year-old Alex Godfrey rode a clever race to take third with a finishing time just over two hours giving the race an average speed of 24mph.

In the B field, the group stayed as one. A puncture saw one of the pre-race favourites Randy Burgess slip out of contention and over the 35 miles nobody proved strong enough to pull away.

Coming into the finish, young Mark Godfrey was in contention but cramping saw him fade and Dennis Joel took another comfortable win. Veteran Tracy Wright, after a strong showing in last week's hill climb, was second, edging out Shannon Lawrence.

In the Junior A group a race long duel developed between Daniel Oatley and Justin Ferreira with Oatley taking the win by less than a second. Anthony Smith was third.

Racing returns to Clearwater this Sunday for the Bank of Bermuda Foundation Time Trial Championships where riders set off individually racing against the clock. It gets underway at 7.30 am.
