World class Bale is man of the moment

What a week it's been for Gareth Bale and Tottenham with their fantastic victory over Inter Milan at White Hart Lane in the Champions League in midweek.

Spurs were simply superb and deserved the win. Bale's wing play was world class and would have tested any right back in the world. Maicon certainly won't be forgetting about the little Welshman anytime soon.

Bale and his fellow wing wizard, Aaron Lennon, are both extremely pacey and Inter's full backs, who are both ageing, just couldn't cope with them.

Both Bale and Lennon like to both push the ball in front of them and beat their opponents through shear speed.

They are a very different breed of winger than, say, David Beckham who likes to cross from a deeper position, or Cristiano Ronaldo who has a bag full of tricks.

I was also impressed with Real Madrid's performance and to grab a draw at the death against AC Milan says plenty about their character under their new coach Jose Mourinho.

During that match, Filipo Inzaghi broke the record for the most goals in the Champions League with a staggering 70 strikes.

Inzaghi is a proven goalscorer and certainly knows where the back of the net is. If he's given half a chance he will make you pay and that's the difference between a top striker and a mediocre one.

Any team in the land would love to have a clinical marksman like Inzaghi, he has scored goals at every levels for what seems like an eternity.

As for my beloved West Ham, I thought we were good value for a point against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. I thought Robert Green was fantastic in goal for us and certainly earned his pay cheque.

However, I must question Avram Grant's substitution in the 87th minute with Victor Obinna being replaced by Julien Faubert. Arsenal scored in the very next minute!

We were doing well and keeping them at bay and I would have left things alone.

Faubert didn't look tuned in and it's very hard when you come on at that stage of the game and I think that's what let us down. Grant may have to take some responsibility for that result.

Looking ahead to this weekend, it's the Liverpool v Chelsea showdown that whets my appetite. Chelsea won't mind going to Anfield one bit and it promises to be an interesting game.

Liverpool always have a chance at home and that's the beauty of the game.

A lot will depends on how Petr Cech plays in between the sticks. If Chelsea are able to hold out at the back then they stand a great chance of getting a win because they greater firepower.

Lastly, I would like to wish Bermudian youngsters Paul Douglas and Amar Lewis all the best when they go to train at the West Ham youth academy next week. It's a great opportunity for them and they should try and make the most of it.

I tried to get in touch with them and would like to give them my full support. Hopefully they will give it their best shot.
