Athletes begin Carifta campaign

Bermuda athletes will be striving to reach qualifying standards for the Carifta Games when they compete in the first track meet of the new year.

Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) are hosting the meet on Saturday at the National Sports Centre, starting at 1 p.m.

BTFA president Donna Watson said the sooner the athletes qualified for Carifta, the sooner they would be able to relax.

"We are hoping that we will be able to get some of our athletes reach the qualifying standards for the Carifta Games (this weekend)," she said.

"As I told the athletes the sooner they meet the standards, the sooner they can relax and just work on improving their times and distances.

"All of the athletes who have met qualifying standards for the other meets such as the CAC Games or Commonwealth Games have already returned to school overseas. They will be beginning their indoor season so we are hoping to hear of some good results from them soon."

The Carifta Games will be held in the Cayman Islands from April 2-5. The Games' two age categories are under-17 and under-20.
