Cannonier grabs winner against former club
Hamilton Parish 1
St. David's 0
Former St. David's striker Angelo Cannonier snatched the winner for Parish in an intriguing FA Cup clash at Wellington Oval yesterday.
Hard-working schemer Irving Burgess created the opening for the crafty Cannonier to stroke home what turned out to be the clincher.
Premier Division cellar dwellers Parish had defender Tareek Webb sent off for a second bookable offence nine minutes from the end and his side had to struggle to soak up some sustained pressure from their First Division challengers.
But Parish, with goalkeeper Nigel Burgess again in top form, hung on for the win.
After 12 minutes Parish's midfielder Rodney Trott grazed a shot off the bar from 14 yards while Landro Minors slammed a shot inches over the woodwork two minutes later.
For the remainder of the half there was little to choose between the two sides with Cannonier and Jamie Smith putting shots over for Parish, while former North Village man Shayne Hollis forced Richardson to dive full length to push his effort around the post.
Just before the interval Irving Burgess was in a goal-scoring position but he was robbed of possession by centre-back Dano Outerbridge as he prepared to shoot.
Strangely after Cannonier opened the scoring, the tempo of play decreased with Parish unable to take any sort of initiative while St. David's surprisingly made steady headway against a brisk wind in their face.
St. David's gave the Parish defence a scare after 75 minutes when Tareek Webb cleared a certain goal off the line just before he got his marching orders.
