Cup win means nothing - Bean

North Village striker Ralph Bean Jr. said his side won't get ahead of themselves as their focus now turns to league action when they host Dandy Town at Bernard Park tomorrow.

The Rams hoisted the Dudley Eve title midweek after holding off PHC in penalties, to bring coach Shaun Goater his first piece of silverware, and will be looking to transfer their momentum from their cup triumph to the league campaign.

Not getting ahead of themselves, Bean is adamant that the cup triumph was a one game play off and that all the win did was take pressure off a side budding with young talent.

And while their confidence will surely be high, the talisman striker knows what lies ahead for his troops in Town.

"It is always good to get a trophy early in the season, it was a cup game but it won't have any bearing on what lies ahead for us," said Bean.

"The win took a little bit of pressure off, and really a cup final is just what it is and has nothing to do with the rest of the season.

"Playing Dandy Town we will look at it as if we haven't won anything and still have a lot to prove.

"I've watched Town play a few times and they have a lot to offer, especially in the attacking department.

"We need to make sure that can contain their attackers and if we do this I think we will be in a good situation.

"Wins always breed confidence.

Bean has only recently broken his goal scoring duck to the new term and believes it is what a striker does when he isn't scoring that makes the difference.

With Jason Lee and skipper Sammy DeGraffe taking on the goal scoring duties early on it wasn't until two weeks ago that Bean scored his first goal of the season.

Now however, with the poacher back to his scoring ways, the sky is the limit for Village's attack.

"I always feel like the goals are there even when I'm not scoring," said Bean.

"Sometimes the ball won't go in but when you are in a slump you have to keep pushing and working hard and it will eventually come.

"We have enough goal scorers so me not scoring isn't an issue, I only look at what's best for the team."

The Dudley Eve champions can make serious inroads into the league race with many of the other contenders playing each other on what could be a weekend that sees a reshuffle of the pack towards the top.

Of all the challengers Somerset Eagles will have the simplest of tasks, albeit not guaranteed, when they play Devonshire Colts at Police Field.

Eagles started brightly but have since fallen off the pace and will be looking to gain ground on leaders Boulevard.

Blazers themselves have no easy task as they host Somerset Trojans at St. John's Field.

A win would see them put five points between themselves and tomorrow's opponents, who are currently in third.

In the day's second top four clash, Cougars will be looking to compound PHC week of misery when the pair face off out Devonshire Rec.

Losers in the Dudley Eve final midweek, Zebras won't find any sympathy from the defending league champions.

n The remaining unbeaten sides in the Corona League look to end another week without a loss as action continues today, as well as matches played last night.

St. David's will face off against West End United in today's opener, while Lobster Pot will clash with Prison Officers in the second match.

Unbeaten Tuff Dogs, who are still chasing Vasco, will play Prospect Fire as they look to keep ground with the leaders.
