Eagles look to continue super start

Somerset Eagles will look to continue their unbeaten Premier Division run tomorrow when they face Boulevard at St. John's Field in their third match of the season.

Last year's First Division champions have had to face the three top teams of a year ago and have exceeded expectations by beating both champions Devonshire Cougars and FA Cup finalists Dandy Town – both by the same score, 3-2.

The Blazers will provide their first test on the road, as the West End team have played their first two matches at their home venure, White Hill Field.

With the early title favourites stumbling out of the blocks and yet to play each other, Eagles appear to be in pole position to break away from the pack early in the campaign.

However, they won't treat Boulevard lightly. The FA Cup champions got their first three points last weekend in a come from behind 2-1 win against Southampton Rangers.

Eagles are only one of two sides currently with maximum points.

The other side with six out of a possible six are PHC, who have had an easy go of things with the early schedule having been generous to the 2008 champions.

Wins over Rangers and Hamilton Parish in their first two games has seen the side in second place, trailing Eagles only on goal difference.

Zebras face a much tougher task tomorrow as they take on newly-promoted Somerset.

Trojans, enjoying a rousing return to the top flight, are in third place, two points behind the top two after an opening day draw against Parish and a 2-0 win over Devonshire Colts last weekend.

The match between the Island's two most historic clubs is the first of a double-header at Southampton Oval, kicking off at 12.30, before landlords Rangers tackle Colts at 3 p.m.

Rangers and Colts will both be looking for their first points of the season, after both lost their first two matches.

Of the pair, Rangers might be considered the unluckiest after taking the lead in both of their games before falling behind in the late stages.

Colts are in a familiar position of looking up at those above them and won't get any sympathy when they travel to the Oval.

The relegation battle seems to be taking shape already with Colts and Parish down at the bottom.

Matters won't get any easier for Parish tomorrow as they face North Village who needed a last-gasp winner to beat Boulevard 3-2 in an entertaining Dudley Eve Trophy match on Thursday night.

The Rams will be looking to get back on track after a 2-1 reverse in their last outing against Cougars.

The champions will renew their acquaintance with cross town foes Dandy Town after the two sides battled on Thursday night in Dudley Eve action, Cougars prevailing 1-0.
