Micah Franklin snatched gold in the Under-17 boys division at the recently completed Caribbean Championships in Barbados to steer Bermuda to third overall in the competition.

The junior squash team returned from a successful trip against strong opposition in the form of Cayman, Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica, OECS, BVI, Bahamas and hosts Barbados.

The event is held every year and features an individual event followed by a team competition.

Bermuda's squad of 15 players, of which five were on their maiden international trip, faired extremely well against tough opposition in the individuals.

Franklin produced a fabulous performance to come through the Under-17 field and take first place without dropping a single game.

Emma Keane, D'Vario Thompson and Kion Knights did well to reach the semi-final stage of their respective age groups.

In the team event both the boys and girls team battled through the group stages to reach the semi-finals after some nail biting matches.

Both teams then faced Trinidad and Tobago for a place in the finals.

The girls were up first and despite Bermuda's Suzanna Armano managing to beat Trinidad's Faith Gillazeau in five tough games, the rest of the team were up against it and were beaten 4-1 overall by the Trinidadians.

The boys then followed on and with wins from Noah Browne and Chris Stout it looked like they may be able to get through to the finals.

However Trinidad proved to have more strength in depth beating Bermuda's Kion Knights and D'Vario Thompson and then in the final tie Trinidad's Kale Wilson overcame Micah Franklin in five hard games to see Trinidad through to the final.
