Bermuda's national squash team are looking to go one better in the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships in Barbados – after finishing runners-up in last year's tournament.

The Islanders enjoyed a fantastic showing at last year's event, held in Bermuda, finishing second in the boys' team, second in the girls team and second overall.

And director of squash Patrick Foster believes the team have the ability to win the eight-day championships, which will feature more than 200 players from countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Bahamas, Cayman and 2008 winners Guyana. It runs from July 11-19.

"Our strongest hopes for the individuals this year are Micah Franklin, Noah Browne and Chris Stout in the boys' under-17 division, and Emma Keane and Alex Marshall in the girls' under-15 division.

"We will also be giving first time international caps to Susanna Armano, Brittney Wall, Beau Orchard, Laird Simmons and Kion Knights."

The team, coached by world number two Denise Sommers, has family flavour with three Knights brothers, Korin, Kyler and Kion, and two Simmons boys, Laird and Beckett.

The players are fundraising to help pay for the cost of the trip by holding many events in the coming weeks at the BSRA such as car washes, bake sales and a quiz/dinner night.
