New league honours veteran ref Swan

Veteran referee Oral Swan was the proud recipient of the Corona League Referee of the Year award when honours were handed out at the first annual All-Star game earlier this month.

Swan, who had been a referee in the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) for the best part of two decades, was contacted by league organisers to officiate at the start of the season and is delighted he made an impression.

"I'm extremely honoured to have received this award. With that being said I'm always encouraged by both the spectators and the players themselves," said Swan.

"I was refereeing with the BFA at the time, something I had done for 21 years, and was approached by the Corona League to participate in their league for the season.

"Having given their offer some thought I decided 'why not' so here we are today. "

Swan said he had been impressed by the new league and hoped it would continue to grow and become a huge success.

"The Corona League is a breath of fresh air at the moment," he said.

"Perhaps it's like anything else that's brand new, once you get into the habit of things one most look out for a little turbulence.

"It's a brand new league, I recognised that the association is ambitious, I can see where there is promise having already completed a season.

"I wish the Corona League all the very best going forward."
