Pros put on–a show!

SKY Streetball Syndicate player Easy-J flys over two Bermudian players as he attemps a behind-the-back dunk during the half time show at Berkeley Institute gym Saturday night.

Bermuda basketball fans were treated to some amazing skills and tricks on Saturday night at the Berkeley Institute gymnasium when the SKY Streetball Syndicate team took on a select team from the Bermuda Basketball Association.

Derrick Hendrickson from the BBA said yesterday: "It was a great night. They (the pros) showed a lot of skills and I am sure everyone enjoyed it."

And Hendrickson said that young Bermuda player Terrence Dill will be given the chance to try out for a pro team in the US.

"The general manager (Roosevelt Bouie Jr.) of the Buffalo Stampede was down here and said he will give Terrence a try out. That can only help Bermuda basketball," he said noting that more Bermudians are playing in school abroad.

Damon Wade, general manager of sponsors Bermuda Gas, said yesterday: "They put a show on. Actually I am surprised they are not playing in the NBA."

Wade said many fans showed up for the evening.

"It was a very good crowd, very impressive – more than last year which was good for us."

The pros were so good in fact that after half time the scoreboard was reset so it started even again.

"The truth of the matter was that there was such a significant difference in the scores. At half time they evened out the scores and started at 20-20 – they (the pros) had been ahead by at least 20-something points. And even when they evened out the scores they ended up winning by at least 20-odd points so probably it was 40 something points difference in the end.

"It was a very successful night. We were pleased with turnout, pleased with how smoothly everything went."

But it was more than just about sport, said Wade. "What we are trying to do is make a connection with the community. We want to do what we can from a corporate point of view. We want to help an option for our young Bermudians – get their minds away from some of the challenges that we have been having. It is all about connecting with the community."
