Respectable finish for masters swimmers
Bermuda's masters swimmers mixed relay team finished a respectable 16th out of 30 teams at the FINA World Championships in Sweden earlier this week.
The quartet was made up of Karen Bruton (backstroke, 39.33 seconds), Colleen Nelson (breaststroke, 42.65) Simon Horrell (butterfly, 34:61) and Paul Viney (freestyle, 29.97).
In the mixed free relay, consisting of Kim Thomas (31.57), Christiane Wehmeyer (31.53), Paul Viney (29.92) and Simon Horrell (29.54), the team placed 30th out of 59 teams.
Competing in the womens freestyle relay were Colleen Nelson (34.52), Annette Budge (33.39), Christiane Wehmeyer (31.67) and Kim Thomas as anchor with a time of 30.88. They placed 19th out of 37 teams.
The final relay saw the womens medley relay team including Christiane Wehmeyer (backstroke, 38.07), Karen Bruton (breaststroke, 42.52) Kim Thomas (butterfly, 35.82) and Annette Budge (freestyle, 33.66) finish in 27th place.
In the individual events Annette Budge and Kim Thomas both competed in the 200m breaststroke. They finished in three minutes and 31.38 seconds and 3.25.26, respectively.
Christiane Wehmeyer and Karen Bruton also raced in the 100m backstroke, finishing in 18th and 20th place. The times were 1.23.41 for Wehmeyer and 1.24.10 for Bruton.
Yesterday Budge was due to compete in the 400m and Bruton in the 50m backstroke.
Today Nelson and Budge were both scheduled to swim the three kilometres open water swim at Lake Delsjon.
