Devonshire Cougars 1 –North Village 0

Kwame Steede's second half header was enough to give Devonshire Cougars victory over North Village at Devonshire Rec last night.

Steede's winner came 18 minutes from the end of a thoroughly uninspiring game of football, and was the second of only two efforts on goal that the home side managed all evening.

North Village were little better, forcing Ricardo Brangman to only make one save, and that was in the first half when Jason Lee cut in from the right, and blasted a shot straight at the Cougars goalkeeper.

Those two moments aside there was little to say about this match, other than it provide ample evidence that neither team will rise much above mediocrity this season.

Certainly Cougars seem well aquipped to keep their impressive recent record of not successfully defending a title intact, while Rams, although well organised, lack a certain amount of bite in midfield and upfront.

Given the deficiencies of both teams it is a miracle either managed to score, but North Village fell asleep at a free-kick and Steede was left unmarked at the back post to score with a simple header.

What was more surprising was that Cougars organised themselves long enough to decide who would take the free-kick.

Last season's defending champions are still without a coach, and spent much of last night's game playing as 11 individuals rather than as a team.

And they were lucky that they didn't finish another game with only ten men on the pitch.

Having already been booked for one clumsy challenge in the closing stages of the game, Cougars defender Kijuan Franks left Terryn Fray in a crumpled heap moments later.

The fact that referee Alton Reid gave the free-kick would seem to suggest that the offence warranted a second card, and Franks can count himself fortunate to have been around till the end.

Wolves 0 Robin Hood 2

Goals from Steven Simons and Teddy Terceira took newcomers Robin Hood to the top of the First Division last night.

In a generally scrappy affair, Hood kept their second clean sheet of the campaign against a Wolves side who posed little threat upfront, and gifted their opponents two goals at the back.

Simons opened the scoring 11 minutes before half time when his corner went directly in via the chest of the Wolves goalkeeper.

For their part the home side had little joy upfront, with a Derrick Brangman free-kick the closest they came to scoring.

The second half was much the same as the first, with Terceira eventaully wrapping up the win a minute from time when he tapped in Jamal Lovell's cross from a yard out.
