Teenagers head to USA on BFA Prep School tour
Bermuda Football Association's (BFA) second annual Preparatory School Tour will see ten youngsters visit seven schools on the East Coast of America.
Sponsored by Capital G Bank, the five-day tour aims to provide the youngsters with a first-hand experience of overseas education as they prepare for college and/or university in the future.
The young players heading to the US are Jai Burgess, 13, Ryan Parris, 14, Alanzo Parsons, 13, Machi Battersbee, 14, Jibre Salaam, 14, Nathan Burgess, 13, Kyla Brangman, 15, Akeyla Furbert, 15, Keunna Dill, 14 and Teara Thomas, 14.
BFA youth director Devarr Boyles will oversee the tour and will be accompanied by chaperone, Suzette Albouy.
The Bermuda Football Foundation (BFF) initially started the ball rolling in 2008 under BFA president Richard Calderon. Of the 26 students, 14 have benefitted from the tour by enrolling in various prep schools in the US, Canada and England.
Boyles said: "The ten players chosen for this were selected on their academic standards and on field performances during the past school year. The Bermuda Football Association continues to strive forward in making this possible for our youth of today."
Ian Turan, president and CEO of Capital G Bank Limited, said: "Like the Bermuda Football Association, Capital G is deeply rooted in Bermuda's community. We have a vested interest in the education and development of Bermuda's talented young people."
