Top honours up for grabs in final cross-country

Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) president Donna Watson is expecting the cross-country season to finish with a bang when the series concludes at the Arboretum this morning.

Several age group winners are still to be decided and up to five divisions will be settled with today's winners almost certain to lock up top honours.

The Under-12 girls is tight at the top with first and second separated by just a few points while the Under-14 boys will depend on who wins between Justin Ferreira and Nakeno Creighton.

The Open Men, dependent on who runs or wins, could see the title awardedto either Jay Donawa or Omari Hart.

Women's Senior Masters Florence Sharpe-Trott and Midge Oliver are neck in neck and men's Senior Masters Eddie Fisher and Lee Harrison are tied. However, if Mark Albouy competes he could also take the top honour.

Overall champions have to have competed in at least three of the five cross-country events this season.

Watson said she anxious to see how the racing unfolds, and has been pleased with the overall attendance throughout the race days.

"I am hoping that we are going to finish the last race off with a bang," said Watson. "We have had some good numbers come out to compete in the cross country for the young children and we have had some tight races.

"We have also had some of these athletes put in some good performances, like Zakiyyah Showers who is leading her age group and beat the boys in her age group in the last race.

"Trey Simons has been having some good races and is putting himself in contention for the up and coming track season. "
