Captain fantastic Jelani Scott bagged a brace for Somerset Trojans to give them victory over arch-rivals Somerset Eagles in the semi final of the Shield Trophy.

Trojans appear to have Eagles' number in cup football this season, at least, having beaten them in semi final of the Dudley Eve earlier this year.

And yesterday's match at Somerset Cricket Club continued in that vain as Dennis Brown's men made Eagles pay for a poor first half performance.

A fine finish from Adrian Burrows and a tap in by Scott gave the hosts the advantage at the break.

However. the scoreline could have been far greater as Eagles failed to find the form that has seen them dominate the First Division this season.

"We gave ourselves to much to do in the second half," said Eagles coach Kenny Thompson.

"By the time we found our quality it was too late.

"I'm not overly disappointed, though, the league has always been our priority this season."

After the break Eagles improved and showed more in the way of attacking intent and pulled a goal back early on through Troy Tucker to give the visitors hope of a comeback.

But midway through the second period Scott restored Trojans' two goal cushion with a superb left foot volley which gave Marcel Dill no chance in the Eagles goal.

Bermuda Hogges midfielder Scott said he believed his team-mates had the psychological advantage over their near-neighbours.

"I think it's a bit of a mental thing," he said.

"We get ourselves so up for games against Eagles as we always want to be the best team in Somerset. I'm very proud of my team tonight."

"Now we need to carry this momentum over to the league and target automatic promotion.

"We need to try and carry the same intensity we display when we play Eagles over to our matches against other opposition."

Scott added he hoped Trojans could make up for their Dudley Eve heartbreak with victory in the Shield final.

"Losing to a penalty shootout against St. George's in the Dudley Eve left a nasty taste in the mouth.

"But now we have another chance for some silverware."
