Warwick Suns lifted the Bermuda Basketball Associations Women's Summer League crown and finished the year undefeated after they dethroned 2009 champions St. George's Storm 23-11 on Monday at Bermuda College.

Warwick took an early 6-0 lead over the Storm. The Suns pressure defence created havoc for the Storms offence as the team struggled to find the bottom of the net in the early minutes. After shooting a dismal 0-7 from the field, St. George's leading scorer Kimale Evans got the side on the scoreboard.

Warwick, however, finished the half on a 4-0 run to give them a 10-point half-time lead.

Historically known for their second half performances, Warwick continued to pressure St. George's in the backcourt. A series of Storm turnovers led to back-to-back lay-ups by Suns 15-year-old guard Akeyla Furbert, pushing her teams lead back to double digits.

As both teams lacked offensive scoring, defence proved to be key as Warwick's pressure defence appeared to be too much for St. George's, keeping the high scoring Storm to a season low 11 points.

An acrobatic reverse lay-up by Wainwright with one minute remaining sealed Warwick's win and ended their undefeated season in epic fashion.

Warwick Suns centre, Marissa Wainwright was crowed the league and finals most valuable player with her 10-point final performance.

Warwick Suns Leading Scorers: Marissa Wainwright 10 points and Akela Furbert 4 points

St. George's Storm Leading Scorer: Kimale Evans 4 points.
