Southampton Rangers enjoyed batting practice against Western Counties rivals Willow Cuts before the heavens opened and halted the Premier Division Open League encounter at Southampton Oval yesterday.

After being battered about for 54 overs, Cuts' woes were further compounded when it began raining just as they were about to start their run chase.

Rangers enjoyed easy pickings after electing to bat and received healthy contributions throughout the order with cousins Janeiro (66) and Kwame (68) Tucker and opening bat Dion Stovell (50) each stroking half centuries.

New acquisition Shannon Raynor stroked 40 and along with the returning Kwame Tucker shared in a 111 fifth-wicket stand.

Spinner Damon Thompson took five for 77 to lead the Cuts' attack while Under-15 national team skipper Deunte Darrell seized two for 59.

Western Stars 13 - 0

Late afternoon showers put paid to Western Stars' victory hopes at the Den yesterday.

The visitors set themselves up nicely for victory after skittling their hosts out 47.4 overs thanks to fine bowling spells from seamer Treadwell Gibbons Jr (three for 34) and left-arm spinner Gershon Gibbons (three for 35).

But with openers Gibbons (five) and Maurice Lowe (four) unbeaten at the crease, heavy run set in at 4.30 p.m. and halted proceedings prematurely.

Earlier, Devonshire found themselves in a pickle after electing to bat on a sluggish pitch.

The visitors struck early to have the hosts reeling at 65 for six before a 59-run tenth-wicket stand between tailenders Lamont Brangman (41 not out) and Charles Warren (18) lifted Devonshire to a more respectable total.

Brangman faced 75 balls and lashed four boundaries in 76 minutes before Warren ran himself out attempting a run that was never on to become the last wicket to tumble.

Others in double figures for the hosts were Ricardo Brangman who hit 25 off 32 balls, Jeremy Fray (16) and skipper Ian Armstrong (15).

Bailey's Bay 35-3

St. David's match against rivals and Bailey's Bay at Lords was stopped due to rain with the visitors chasing 185 runs.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 185 all out, with Kearon Trott taking four for 41 and Dennico Hollis taking three for 23. Young spinner Tre Govia claimed 2-61 and Tywan Burgess 1-42.

Landro Minors led the scoring for the Islanders making 47, while Bermuda batsman O.J. Pitcher added 36. Arthur Pitcher Jr. chipped in with 18.

Bailey's Bay were 35 for three when rain halted play with the match ending in a draw.
