Wilson brace bags win for Boulevard
Southampton Rangers 0 Boulevard 2
Temiko Wilson bagged a second half brace for Boulevard Blazers who brushed aside struggling Southampton Rangers at the Southampton Oval yesterday.
The powerful striker struck twice in quick succession to hand unbeaten Blazers their second victory of the season.
Neither team had looked convincing during a scrappy first-half with Rangers missing the best chance through striker Adrian Burrows who headed Jermaine Dill's cross wide from just yards out.
Early in the second half, Blazers opened the scoring with Wilson latching onto a through ball before driving his shot past Rangers goalkeeper Jason Smith from a tight angle.
Minutes later, Wilson added to his tally with a similar finish to his first after being released on goal by an Angelo Simmons flick on.
In truth, Blazers could have won by a far greater margin. Their skipper Simmons, who struck the crossbar with a long-range effort in the first period, squandered several second half chances and Wilson should have scored his hat-trick but fired wide from a good opportunity.
Rangers created a few second half openings of their own with Gernal Darrell twice being denied by Blazers keeper Shejuan Swan, while Burrows had a header cleared off the line.
Keith Jennings' side remain rooted to the bottom of the league standings after four games and are yet to earn a single point this term.
Despite being widely tipped to struggle this season, Blazers have made an encouraging start and their defender Ajani Gibbons believes they could be a surprise package this campaign.
"I thought we played well today, we claimed the three points and that was our objective. I think we can become a team this season and this wan't even our strongest side," he said.
"We've still got guys like Takeyhi Walker, Mel Gibbons, Reiko Trott and Quadir Maynard to come back in and I think we can achieve things this season.
