Police 140

Young Men's Social Club stopped Police dead in their tracks at Devonshire Rec yesterday to give Charlie Marshall the perfect wedding gift.

The two-time defending Premier limited overs league champions hammered the Central Counties champions by 169 runs with skipper Kevin Hurdle leading from the front by snatching four for 32 and then blasting –77 from just 53 balls as Social Club put their opponents to the sword.

Hurdle cracked four sixes and five fours and added 118 runs for the second wicket along Dwayne Adams who scored an equally fine 62.

Others feasting on a blunted Police attack were player/coach Marshall (55) ¿ who is scheduled to walk down the aisle next weekend ¿ and David Lovell (40) who featured in a 66 -run sixth-wicket stand with Kenny Phillip (37).

Medium pacer Rohan Henry (two for 55) was the pick of the bowling for Police.

In reply, Police proved unequal to the task presented to them with only Wendell Ditten (23 not out), Garvin Aparicio (20) and James Celestine (18) managing promising starts.

PHC 94

S'ton Rangers 98-1

Dion Stovell single handily destroyed PHC at Southampton Oval yesterday as Southampton Rangers romped to a bruising nine-wicket win with 241 balls to spare.

The part-time off spinner claimed two for 30 as PHC folded in 37 overs and then returned to the crease to smash a belligerent 60 off 30 balls as Rangers raced to their second victory over their opponents in 24 hours.

Stovell belted 11 fours and a six and dominated stands of 65 for the first wicket with Kwame Tucker (eight) and second with Curtis Jackson (17 not out) that saw the home side safely home with minimum casualties in only 9.5 overs.

The aggressive right handed batsman was particularly brutal on PHC all-rounder Dean Stephens and makeshift seamer Jason Anderson who went for a costly 29 and 21 in a single over.

Stephens (one for 39) accounted for the sole Rangers wicket to fall.

Earlier skipper Malachi Jones seized three for 14 while veteran swing bowler Ryan Belboda bagged two for 26 to make life miserable for a PHC side that opted to take first strike.

Ricardo Brangman topped the PHC batting with 25 followed by Daniel Caines who managed 19.

Somerset CC 205-9 –St.David's 206-5

High Performance player Delyone Borden claimed three wickets and then hit an unbeaten 38 to anchor St.David's to a comfortable five-wicket win against Somerset at Somerset Cricket Club with 11 balls to spare.

The 2007 World Cup veteran produced miserly figures of three for 28 as Somerset were restricted under 250 runs.

Borden's senior national squad team-mate Jekon Edness topped the West Enders' batting with a well played 62 while all-rounder Shane Hollis added an unbeaten 36.

Also getting in among the runs for the Islanders was all-rounder Angelo Cannonier who stroked a fine 51 before the visitors reached their target in the penultimate over of the match.

Kirk Brown was Somerset's best bowler with figures of two for 18.

Cleveland County 266 –Bailey's Bay 267-4

Veteran batsman Aaron Adams hit a century in vain as hosts Bailey's Bay handed Cleveland a second straight loss in 24 hours at Sea Breeze Oval.

Adams hit a fine 113 batting at number five but it still wasn't enough to prevent Bay from chalking up a convincing six-wicket win.

Leading Bay to victory was skipper Rodney Trott who thumped an unbeaten 87, veteran batsman Glenn Blakeney jr (64) and Stephen Outerbridge who chipped in with a very useful 38.

Promising spinner Damali Bell (two for 32) and seamer Allan Douglas jr (two for 43) produced best bowling figures for Cleveland.

Others in double figures for Cleveland who won the toss and elected to bat on a green top were former skipper Jason Simons (55) and tailender Charles Richardson who followed up Saturday's knock of 40 with a well-played 34.

Adams and Simons shared in Cleveland's biggest stand, adding 77 runs for the fifth-wicket to keep their team on course for a decent total to defend.
