Trojans defending five titles
Somerset Trojans and North Village will be looking to keep hold of their respective titles when the 12th annual Kappa Alpha Psi Classic kicks off today.Trojans made a clean sweep of all three of the girls divisions, while also winning the boys under-8 and under-10 titles last time around, while Village hold the under-12 boys crown.The Classic, which will see competition over two days with the semi finals being played tomorrow, will have 48 boys teams covering and nine girls sides close to 800 youth players being involved.This year’s categories include the boys under-8, under-10 and under-12, while the girls will do battle in the under-10 and under-12 division. The under-14 category has been scrapped this year.“The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is celebrating its 100th year anniversary and the Bermuda Alumni Chapter is hosting the newly renamed Kappa Classic to display the football talents of Bermuda’s young people between the ages of seven and 12,” said Jamal Hart of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.“The tournament provides these kids with a venue to showcase their sportsmanship, leadership and teamwork in a festive atmosphere.“The teams have worked hard all year and the Kappa Classic is the fitting end to the season.“Thanks to the generosity of our community partners and volunteers the Kappa Classic has grown over the years.“We have extended the tournament so that the round robin games and quarter final matches will be held on Saturday and the semi Final and Final matches on Sunday.The defending champions from last year are girls under-10, under-12 and under-14 (Trojans), boys: under-8, under-10 and under-12 (North Village).Kick off for both days is at 9am at the National Sports Centre.
