Data Tech Netts withstood a gruelling battle with North Village Lady Rams to keep their unblemished record intact at Bernard Park at the weekend. The defending Winter League champions were pushed all the way before eventually prevailing 24-17 over Lady Rams, who had a player walk off court in the closing stages of the match following an altercation.Antoinette Gibbons and Denise Rawlins led the way for Data Tech Netts, scoring 12 points apiece.Data Tech Nett’s second win in as many matches enabled them to maintain pole position in the ten-team standings on goal difference over nearest rivals Young Men’s Social Club Lady Bluebirds.Netts’ stalwart Tanika White said: “Overall, it was a hard fought and very aggressive game and a lesson learned for everyone. We were happy that we won a tough battle, which will help us to stay focused.”The defending champs struggled in attack in the absence of prolific goal-shooter Gina Benjamin but in the end did just enough to put the match beyond Lady Rams’ reach.“We led the whole game but our shooters were off, they missed a lot of goals,” White added. “Gina didn’t play and that had a big impact because the movement was good but we couldn’t seem to get the ball in the net.”Still breathing closely down Data Tech Netts’ necks are Lady Bluebirds who are also unbeaten after two matches.Last season’s Winter League runners-up were also forced to dig deep before ultimately prevailing 55-52 over New Life, with Danielle Raynor pouring in 39 points and Ebonie Burgess and Shanelle Lewis adding 16 points apiece.Deborah DeShields exploded for a game-high 43 points in a losing cause for New Life, who are currently fourth in the standings.Picking up their first wins of the season were Smooth and Easy Tigers who thumped winless DC Warriors 49-13 and Young Men’s Social Club Blazing Bluebirds who won by default against North Village Lady Rams II.The match pitting fifth-placed Signworx Netts against third-placed Warwick Pink Panthers was postponed and will now be played at a later date. Signworx and Pink Panthers are both unbeaten after winning their season openers against Lady Rams and Lady Rams II.
