Wells flourishing in strike partnership

Nahki Wells is happy to keep playing the role of “scruffy” sidekick in City’s fruitful strike partnership with James Hanson. The Bermuda international and Hanson hit the net again in the FA Cup at Watford the third time they have both scored in the last four games.Hanson leads the way with ten goals for the season, doubling his tally in the last month, while Wells has now chipped in with five.Phil Parkinson has praised the growing understanding between City’s front pair and Wells believes they have the right mix of power and pace to unsettle any defence.Wells told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus: “We’re two very different players and both cover areas that the other one finds difficult.“He’s more the go-to man and I pick up the pieces.“If James is winning his battles, then I feel pretty much unstoppable. I’m confident I’ve got the edge over my man with my quick-thinking and quick feet and movement.“He wins the balls to put me down the channels and I’m the scrappy man who does all the little dirty work.“I’m sure we can keep doing well together from now until the end of the season.”Wells feels he has moved on from an impact player hoping to make things happen from the bench into a regular name on Parkinson’s team-sheet.The cup exit at Vicarage Road was only his seventh senior start in English football but Wells believes he is proving to the Bantams boss that he is more than just a quick-fix for the final 20 minutes. He added: “We’ve got nine points out of the last 12 in the league and I feel I’ve played well in those games.“I think I’m becoming one of the manager’s favourites and I want to keep it that way. I don’t thing I’ve done anything wrong to lose my position.“Rotherham dealt with James well which made it hard for us because we didn’t come up with another alternative. They blocked the balls up to him and I couldn’t get into the game so much.“That was a harsh result. I never had any thought we’d lose the game but then you snap your fingers and we’re 3-0 down.“But the team have got a lot of confidence in ourselves. We’re still playing well and we’re looking at moving up the league table.”Wells credits City’s improvement up front to a tightening up at the back.He said: “A while back we were saying that goals is a problem for us. But when you’re conceding two or three, it just makes it so much harder.“Finding a solidarity within the team makes it easier as strikers.“When you’re down, you have to score and that adds to the pressure. The other team can just sit back.“Now we’re defending well, we’re getting the chances and taking them. We just want to keep that up and I’m confident that we can.”
