Lorrisa Rivas can hardly wait to get back into the ring for a rematch with Bermuda’s Teresa Perozzi.Perozzi, whose professional record currently stands at 8-4-1, beat her American rival on a split decision during last month’s WBA world middleweight championship bout in Trinidad. However, Rivas still believes that she is the better fighter and has vowed to set the record straight if given a chance to do so.If all goes accordingly Rivas hopes to renew rivalries with Perozzi in the ring as early as March.“We spoke about it before in Trinidad and the promoters agreed that there would be a rematch,” commented Rivas’ manager Boxu Potts, speaking from Las Vegas. “It (rematch) could be March in Bermuda or Trinidad.“Whoever comes up with the money will get the fight. If they (promoters) can come up with the money they would fight each other right back, that was the condition.”It is understood that Perozzi and Rivas could earn as much as $10,000 apiece for the rematch.Earlier this week Perozzi confirmed that her next fight will be on local shores against an opponent whose identity remains a mystery. The mother-of-one said she is delighted to have been given the opportunity to showcase her skills before the home crowd.“It’s wonderful to know I will be fighting at home,” she said. “It is a dream come true and I am excited about the opportunity.”Following her loss to Perozzi concerns were raised over Rivas’ fitness, with her manager eventually deciding it best that she fight in a lower decision.“What I have observed is that Lorissa normally wins her first five rounds very comfortably, but seems to flatten out a bit between eight to ten rounds. Therefore in the immediate future we will be pursuing our goals in the super welterweight division,” said Potts, in a press statement. However, since then Rivas and her manager have changed their tune.“Most fighters, when they have a defeat, they always want to avenge their defeat,” Potts told The Royal Gazette. “Everybody feels when they lose they can win the next match and she (Rivas) definitely feels she has a good chance against Perozzi.“So if that’s her feeling, and the money is right, I won’t stop her from fighting and will allow her to pursue her dreams.”Potts is confident of the rematch between Perozzi and Rivas coming off.“It’s not a possibility, she will definitely fight as long as the promoters can come up with the money,” he added. “It’s going to be a very tough fight that’s going to come down to who has the will to win.”Potts said Perozzi deserved to win last month’s championship bout in Trinidad that took place on the eve of the Bermudian’s 38th birthday.“Teresa fought a sensible fight and I thought the other girl (Rivas) just got tired,” he added. “Teresa threw a lot of punches and that’s what I think gave her the decision ... she was definitely the busier fighter.“I thought Teresa definitely won the fight but a rematch would be a very interesting fight. Teresa is a very determined fighter who doesn’t roll over that easy, so it’s going to be a very interesting fight.”
