Perozzi’s preparations to receive financial boost
LV’s Ferrari Bar will host a reception this Friday with proceeds from the event to go in aid of Teresa Perozzi’s preparations for her next bout. The 38-year-old southpaw, who landed the vacant WBA world middleweight belt with a split decision win over American Lorissa Rivas in Trinidad last month, will also be honoured during the three-hour long reception.“This is a very special honouring of Teresa Perozzi in light of her winning the WBA world middleweight championship,” commented event co-organiser Dale Butler. “We are also trying to raise some funds for her and because of the tough economic times we haven’t made it an expensive gala.“It’s just a $10 admission and we are serving hors d’oeuvres and we will also have raffles and a silent auction. This also provides an opportunity to get autographs and to wish her well, and we have invited the Opposition, the Government. Everyone in the country can participate by paying the $10 and enjoying the light refreshments, raffle, etc.”Mother of one Perozzi is currently preparing for a bout to be held on local soil during March’s Teacher’s Rugby Football Club Fight Night at Berkeley Institute Gym against an opponent yet to be determined.“Because this is a very important fight we are attempting to assist her because every time she takes off from work for training she loses income and she does have a family,” Butler added. “So this is the Little Venice Group’s continued support that we have been giving over the years.”Perozzi, whose overall pro record currently stands at 8-4-1, thanked the Little Venice Group for their support.“They have always been supportive of me for the last ten-years,” she said. “I am very thankful for that and it’s really nice to get recognised.”Last week it emerged that local promoters were on the verge of “signing off” on an opponent to face Perozzi in the ring on local soil in March.Perozzi claimed the WBA world middleweight crown after prevailing against Rivas at the Woodbrook Youth Academy.Since then both camps have been engaged in behind-the-scenes discussions over the possibility of a rematch between the two female boxers .Victory in her next venture in the ring will earn Perozzi a shot at Tori Nelson’s WBC world middleweight belt in a unifying bout that could be held on local shores.
