Bean on podium at NJ event

Martial arts competitor Kent Bean continued his fine form over the weekend at the 40th IAMA contest in Somerset, New Jersey, grabbing two podiums places in empty hand and weapons forms.Competing at the Somerset New Jersey’s Ukranian Cultural Center,17 year-old Bean placed third in empty hand and first in weapons forms, a good showing given there were no junior competitors in his rank and age group and he entered 20 years and up for forms. The weapons category was open to all age groups and had six entrants. The Kai Yun Shaolin Academy teacher also took both forms and weapons grandchampionships at the 30th Bermuda Open Karate Championships (BOKC) at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. Bean won both events to claim top honours while also winning his sparring match.Veteran exponent Skipper Ingham also demonstrated his signature form to open the competition, as promoter Gary Alexander requested that he perform rather than compete in the over-40 division. Ingham is over 70 years-old.
