Under-12 girls through to Disney final

Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School (BBFS) Under-12 girls team will be gunning for glory in today’s Disney Cup final in Orlando, Florida.The local youth team produced a stunning late comeback to snatch a 3-3 draw with Lakeland in their final group match yesterday to set up a final showdown with Fraigcomar of Puerto Rico.The Under-12 girls team advanced to the final by virtue of having scored more goals than their nearest group rivals.It is the first time that a BBFS team has reached a cup final in both domestic and international competition in the organisation’s five-year history.The team’s bid to reach the final appeared to be in jeopardy after trailing opponents Lakeland 3-1 with ten minutes remaining on the clock. But just when all hope seemed lost, the local team staged an amazing fightback with goals from Jade Stewart and Naziah Webb, earning their team a share of the spoils and more importantly a trip to the final.Earlier the versatile Leilanni Nesbeth opened the scoring fo the girls who are coached by Shawnette Perot and Jenay Edness.Reaching the semi-finals in their respective categories were BBFS’s Under-9 and Under-12 boys’ teams and the Under-14 girls.The Under-9 boys lost 3-1 against a talented team from Venezuela, the Under-12 boys lost 1-0 to Rivellino Academy of Brazil while the Under-14 girls lost 3-0 against Osceola United 97 Makos Florida 97.Accompanying the teams in Florida are BBFS CEO Cal Blankendal and coach Dennis Brown.
