Teachers take down Mariners
Teachers proved too strong for Mariners in the Bermuda Rugby Union Men’s League, winning 33-20 at the National Sports Centre over the weekend.Tries from Shautino Simons, Antonio Perinchief-Leader, Patrick Richardson and Adam Chilvers, as well as a conversion from Simons, helped Teachers to a 26-15 lead at the interval.Two tries from Andrew Barnes and a try from Seniko Thomas reduced the deficit for Mariners but Teachers extended their lead to 33-15 through a try from Anthony Cupidore and a conversion by Simons.Chris Lapoka scored a late try for Mariners.In the second game of the day, Renegades defeated Police 23-21.Jahan Cedenio opened the scoring for Renegades to take a 5-0 lead with Ian Henderson kicking a conversion.Police came back when Paul Davis scored a try and Tristen Kermode kicked the conversion to make it 8-7.David Pringle put Police in front with his team’s second try with Kermode booting home the extra points.Cedenio scored his second try of the game. However, the conversion was missed.Henderson then kicked a penalty to give Renegades a 16-14 lead before Neil McGuiness added another try which Henderson converted.Johnford Davis crossed for a late try for Police and Davis kicked the conversion to make the final score 23-21.In the Women’s Division, Teachers beat Mariners 5-1.Teachers’ try scorers were Katy Wright (3), Sally Cann and Christine Richards.Heather Wearmouth scored for Mariners.In the second game of the day, Renegades drew 1-1 with Police.Renegades’ try scorer was Rose-Anna Hoey while Deirdre Mellow went over the line for Police.
