Karters do battle in Dockyard
Karting will take centre stage in Dockyard this weekend for the first time in the sport’s history.
The event will see the Clocktower area of the west end transformed into a track for two days of racing.
Three classes will compete in a one-off trophy day, featuring practice sessions, heat races and the final Grand Prix on Sunday.
Junior drivers will take to the course in their own class, while the 125 Shifters and 125 TAG division drivers will also do battle.
Racing takes place from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Grand Prix starts at 1pm on Sunday.
Drivers will earn points from their placings in the heat races, which will act as qualifying for the main event.
Bermuda Karting Club president Scott Barnes is hopeful that the event will bring fans and family to watch as the drivers attempt to demonstrate their skills.
“This is a big event for the Bermuda Karting Club as it bring out drivers that used to race back in the day and gets them interested in racing again,” said Barnes. “It’s also a big event to show Bermudians what our sport is all about and show them more about karting.
“This course in Dockyard is a lot different then our normal Southside track, a lot tighter, bumpier and smaller.
“It’s definitely going be a drivers’ track and not so much a motor speed track.
“Smarter and timely, aggressive driving will win races.”
Heat races will be eight minutes in length, which is roughly 16 laps on the track, while the main races will be 12 minutes in length.
