Mayho claims honours in Mountain Bike Series
Dominique Mayho, Bermuda’s top cyclist, fended off a challenge from veteran Neil de ste Croix to claim victory in the Flying Colours Mountain Bike Series at Admiralty House Park at the weekend.
Mayho led the male A class from the outset, never relinquishing his vice-like grip on proceedings, finishing a lap ahead of the field in a time of 52 minutes and 10.2 seconds.
De ste Croix came second with 11 laps in 50:38.5, with Che’quan Richardson, who also completed 11 laps, placing third in 52:27.2.
Teenager Matthew Oliviera outlined his potential by romping to victory in the male B class, dominating opponents twice his age with both his fitness and skills.
The 13-year-old led from start to finish, posting a time of 43:1.04 with nine laps.
Chris Smith, second in 41:50.1, and Tyler Smith, 42:50.1, both finished eight laps.
Dexter Swan reigned supreme in the male veteran class, completing nine laps of the gruelling course in a time of 44:32.9. Runner-up Hirschi Hans (42:02.05) and third-place Charles Swart (42:46.4) both finished eight laps.
In the female veteran class, Karen Smith took the honours with seven laps in 41:01.3.
Laurie Orchard, who took tumble and required help from fellow competitor to extricate her from shrubbery, was second with six laps in 41:27.7.
The female B class saw Gabriella Arnold (43:10.8) finish a lap ahead of Ashley Kirkpatrick (42:48) who completed six laps.
In the junior divisions, Alex Pilgrim roared to victory in the male 13-15 race. He crossed the line in 33:47, having completed five laps. In second was Alex Bordage (33:06.5) with six laps, while Samuel Walsh finished third (33:21.4) also with six laps under his belt.
Malik Joell dominated the 12 and under group, posting a time of 16:52.2, having chalked up eight laps. Runner-up was Eusebio King-Mills (15:47.2) with seven laps, with Benjamin Edwards in third (15:47.4) also with seven laps.
Victoria Davis triumphed in the junior female 13-15 race with five laps in 31:18.8, while Billy Phillips won the male novice division with six laps in 30:28.5. April Galda-Joyce claimed honours in the female novice category with five laps (31:51.2).
The fourth race of the Series will be held on December 29 and Lagoon Park, starting at 8.30am.
