Indiana drivers dominate action at Vesey Street
Three drivers from Indiana added new competition to Boxing Day harness racing at Vesey Street yesterday, with Lewayne Miller recording four firsts and a second and his brother Dale Miller and Kevin Lambright two firsts and one second.
Lewayne rode IC’s Shakedown to victories in heat races for two and three-year-olds and then took Colonel’s Finest to two wins in the four-year-olds. Miller was also second with Night Dreamer in the the 1:05/0-1:06/0 time bar.
Dale Miller drove to victory with Cherokee’s Ironman in two races for four-year-olds, as Kenny Mills with Itsallaboutme had seconds in heats 15 and 21 and Chad Sutherland on Hott Gossip two thirds. Lambright rode GV Special Dream to two victories in the 1:06/1-1:07/1 time bar. The four four-year-old finalists for New Year’s Day, based on how they finished, are favourites Cherokee’s Ironman and Itsallaboutme as well as Hott Gossip and Colonel’s Finest.
Finalists for two and three-year-olds include IC’s Shakedown, a three-year-old, and Inwood’s Generation and Shady Lady, both two-year-olds. The Aged finalists are GV Crystal Ball, who tied with Black & Mild, Abbey’s Dream and Down Home Punch.
“We had a good day of racing with some very exciting races,” said Arnold Manders, president of the Driving Horse and Pony Club, who expects some exciting races in the finals on New Year’s Day, starting at 1pm.
“We encourage those who don’t have anything to do on New Year’s Day to come out and watch some exciting races.”
