Painful start for newcomers

DataTech Netts and Lady Bluebirds were in action at the weekend

Bermuda College endured a baptism of fire on their Senior Winter League debut at Bernard Park at the weekend.

The league’s newcomers suffered a bruising 57-2 defeat against defending champions Lady Bluebirds, who got their title defence off to a flyer.

Danielle Raynor led newly-crowned Sylvia Eastley champions Lady Bluebirds with 18 points, with Ebonie Burgess and Eshe Grant chipping in with 13 each.

Despite missing key players, Warwick Workman’s Club Pink Panthers proved too strong for DataTech For-Ts, who are also newcomers to the league. Panthers prevailed 45-33 with Nikita Trott pouring in 27 points and Darika Simons 18. DataTech’s Alex Dowling scored a game-high 28 points.

Signworx Netts beat Bluebirds Too 43-27, with Stevontae McCallan and Amali Smith doing the bulk of the scoring. McCallan scored 19 points, while Smith added 15. Keizhari Knights scored a game-high 20 points for Bluebirds Too. Blazzin Bluebirds handed Lady Rams a 50-33 loss, with Fredericka Samuels scoring 44 points. Jahture Trott scored 24 points for Lady Rams.
