Smith races to victory

National champion: Smith finished well ahead of the field in the race at Clearwater

Tyler Smith won the National Duathlon Championships at Clearwater yesterday.

The junior elite athlete won the 5K run, 20K bike, 2.5K run race in a time of 59:47 with Tucker Murphy, the Winter Olympian, second in 1:01:02, just ahead of Mark Robinson who was third in a time of 1:02:08.

Julia Hawley was crowned the women’s champion, coming home in a time of 1:07:25.

In the sprint race, a 2K run, 10K bike, 1K run, Gabriel Wilkinson was first in 36:28, with Brendan Doyle second in 41:03, and Laura Keyes third in 44:59.

Fire Flyers won the adult teams race in 1:01:30, while Tommy Marshall won the 7-10 juniors race in 15:05, and Nicholas Pilgrim the 11-15 juniors in 28:12.
